I read a quote in a book today (the book is called Conversations with the Voiceless); and I was really convicted by it both personally and as a member of this group of people that is supposed to be known by its love for others. The quote was this, "Why is it so much easier to care about causes than about people?" We often rally behind some big cause such as right to life, marriage issues, and family issues; but when the dust settles and the media hype is gone there are few people still hanging around just loving the people in those tough situations that life can throws at us. I think the world would benefit more by our quiet love behind the scenes, rather than our loud picketing before the media.
